Balochistan is a vast area, which is today divided by political boundaries with countries like Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. The elusive Balouchi people are a group of semi-nomadic, non-Turkoman tribes and sub-tribes who live in the area on the borders between Afghanistan and Iran. Balochi rugs often present geometric motifs and tribal designs, but designs and patterns vary in different regions and tribes. An interesting point to note is that the Balouchi rugs are typically small as they are woven on a horizontal loom placed on the ground, and the designs of the tribal rugs are mostly generated from memory. The materials commonly used in the Baluch rugs are cotton, wool, and occasionally goat or camel hairs.
Balochi rugs can make very fine entrance rugs or can be used in smaller spaces; they would fit very nicely in a traditional or minimalistic setting.
